'Wood grain in aluminium.'
Made in sand cast aluminium based on a sandblasted block of Pine wood. We tried to represent the appearance of weathered timber, then transferred the texture to aluminium. This reproduction of delicate grain pattern was possible with Lemnos' long experience in metal casting and the ability of their technical team, completed by careful hand finishing.
The area where the company is based, Takaoka in Toyama Prefecture, is known for its metal casting tradition in Buddhist equipment, such as bells or incense pots, used in temples and ceremonies at home.
切り出してしばらく経った木のかたまりは木目の間のやわらかい部分がやせて、年輪が浮き出てきます。その経年変化を再現することで、日々の道具が時間の経過そのものを語るデザインです。ブックエンドとして控えめに本を支えつつ、時間を見るたびに少しだけ、自然の存在を感じてもらえればと思います。
富山県高岡市の金属鋳物の伝統を受け継いだ職人さんたちがチャレンジしてくださり、いくつもの試作を経て繊細な表情になりました。ひとつひとつ手作業で仕上げるため、すべてが同じではなく少しずつ個性があります。
