Nest is a paper weight or jewellery dish - resting on your desk, dressing table or dining table.  It is made from crystal glass with a birds nest laser engraved inside the glass.
 

Nest is one of five ranges of products we have designed for Monna Studio, a glass manufacturer from Istanbul.  They are the fruits of development sessions, to revive Monna Studio's skilled methods of glass manufacturing and send it into contemporary homes of the world wide market.  Some of the ranges are hand blown, and every product is hand-finished by experienced workers - as a result they are more human than machine made products.

Monna Studio's collection, including three more international designers, will be shown at the Maison & Objet in Paris for the first time.

Nest はペーパーウエイトとして、またはくぼみにジュエリーなどの小物を置く皿として使ってもらえるガラスのオブジェです。クリスタルガラスの塊の中に、レーザー彫刻で鳥の巣を彫り込みました。見る角度によってさまざまな表情を見せます。

Nest と同時にあと4シリーズの作品群が、昨年春のプロトタイプ発表を経て商品化になりました。どれも卓上のもので、お菓子などをディスプレーするための小皿 Plato と、3種類のキャンドル・スタンド -  Bulbous Pondero Calculus です。

このシリーズは Monna Studio のために、イスタンブールで時間をかけて育ったガラスの工芸技術と量産のはざまのような工程 - 機械を使いながらも必ず仕上げは手仕事で、職人の腕と勘にモノとしての存在感がかかっている、そんな環境でのもの作りを世界のマーケットに届ける試みとして始まりました。キャンドル・スタンドが3つも出来たのは、ガラスの質感を楽しむには光との組み合わせが効果的だったからです。

今回のメゾン＆オブジェでの Monna Studio のスタンドは、わたしたちの5作品と一緒に、カリム・ラシッドを含む他の3デザイナーの作品もならび、デザイナーごとに独自の世界を作り上げています。

'Women Working in Wood', touring exhibition has started in London yesterday - it is held until 16 December 2011.

ドーセットで始まった展示会がロンドンに巡回しています。

さまざまなバックグラウンドを持つ6人の女性デザイナーの家具を展示し、木工界では今まであまり取り上げられなかった女性ならではのアプローチについて語ろう、という企画の展示会がロンドン・メトロポリタン大学内にある Metropolitan Gallery に巡回します。「木材の扱いが女性らしいというだけではなく、サステナブルに対する女性からのアプローチを見せたい。」というキュレーターの言葉です。

「海外で勝負する4人の日本人の仕事力」という副題の本が、六耀社より発売になりました。

日本企業の海外進出を担った方、パリの老舗カフェのギャルソン、NYで活躍するメークアップアーティストの3氏と共に安積朋子も、川島蓉子さんのインタビューを受け仕事やその背景が紹介していただきました。特に、英国最高裁判所の家具のデザインについて、たくさんお話をしました。「海を越えたNIPPON魂」と言われるには少々おもはゆい、自分としては「人間万事塞翁が馬」的なストーリーではありますが、、、他の3方の物語にもとても励まされますし、書店でお見かけの際には手にとってご覧ください。

A book written by Yoko Kawashima, on four Japanese who is working abroad, has published by Rikuyosha.  If you translate the title, it would be.. 'Stick Out from Japan'.

The touring exhibition of Charity Box for Japan in Geneva is still opened - another week to go, until 5 October. 

The show is sponsored by No Mad, location is at Intercloisons showroom, 19 rue de l'Arquebuse, Geneva.

This exhibition started in Milano during the Salone del Mobile this April.  58 designers designed a charity box each, using creativity to help raise funds.  With the warm support of visitors, the show raised 7,803 Euro, which was forwarded to two prefectures which were damaged most severely by the tsunami.

Our design for this exhibition is a birdhouse charity box, which gives you a little song when you push money ( rolled-up note is the best! ) through the round entrance.
 

ミラノ在住の菰田和世氏を中心に企画され、サローネ期の3日間で7,803ユーロの義援金を日本に送ったこの募金箱デザインの展示会が、イタリアでの7月の巡回展を経て、アート・デザイン誌『No Mad』の招待によりジュネーブので開催されます。この展示会には58人のデザイナーが参加し「未曾有の事態にデザインは何が出来るか？」という問いへのひとつの回答を示しました。

わたしたちのスタジオでは鳥小屋に仕掛けをほどこし、お金（もちろんコインでもいいのですが、丸めたお札がベストです！）を入れると鳥がさえずる募金箱を作りました。多くの観客のあたたかいサポートに感謝し、今後も多くの人が楽しんで義援金を入れてくれることを願っています。

あと一週間、10月5日までの開催です。
