Tomoko Azumi is giving a talk at the Creative Dialogue at Metropolitan Works.

This is a popular talk series opened to any creative minds, followed by casual reception and chat session.  Tomoko is presenting a slide show with her projects, focusing on where the projects start - whats are the issues and motivation of each project.

A part of Clerkenwell Design Week events, there is an charity auction for Japan Relief at TOTO London showroom, on 26 May from 6pm.  Among with other pieces donated by known brand and retailer in the UK, we have a piece from old partnership Azumi, for Hitch Mylius, dining chair called HM38.

Other pieces in this auction include; Sori Yanagi's Butterfly Stool donated by Vitra, Coffee / Tea Maker by Naoto Fukazawa, donated by Twentytwentyone and Side Table by Nendo, donated by Cappellini.  Auction result is sent to Shigeru Ban's 'Evacuation Centres Partitionst' project.

There are still more than 150,000 people are out of their own home, living in temporary shelters, such as school gymnasium and local authority buildings and civil housings all over Japan.

One of our studio designers Maiko Tsutsumi, also a lecturer at Camberwell College of Arts, has co-curated an exhibition 'Thingness'.

''There is a renewed interest in what the act of making does to humans and our understanding of the object.  Makers and designers seem to be at a point of reflection: re-evaluating our sensitivities to objects and materials.  The exhibition and accompanying symposium reflect on how objects come to be and how the making of an object affords it 'a voice''.

Camberwell College of Artsにて開催中の『Thingness』はt.n.a. Design Studioのスタッフの一人、堤麻衣子がキュレーションをしています。「作る」という行為からデザイナーや工芸家は何を獲得しているのか？モノや素材感はクリエーションにどんな影響を与えているのか？モノや素材に対する感受性を通した世界の理解のしかたを探るこの展示会は6月10日まで。

連休明けの5月10日に六本木のアクシス・ギャラリーで開催される落語会『花緑 seasoning：第３回／花』のポスターです。恒例になっている手ぬぐいとともに、佐藤卓さんのデザイン。

安積朋子は2つの演目の間のトークにゲストとして参加します。ほんとうに ''秘すれば花''なのか、それともどんどん咲かせるべきか？「感動」または「微笑み」という言葉で置きかえられる  ''花'' を咲かせるための茎や葉、根や栄養などは、デザインではどう鍛えるべきなのか？伝統と現代のバランスは？などを、花緑師匠に聞いてみようと思っています。

Tomoko Azumi is participating as a guest talk at a Rakugo (lone storyteller, mostly comedy) performance by Karoku Yanagiya, one of the leading young Rakugo players in Japan.  At Axis Gallery, Roppongi, Japan on 10 May.

サローネ時期のミラノで開催された『Charity Box』展にお越し頂いたたくさんの方々、ありがとうございました。オープニング・パーティーの晩にすでにロンドンに戻る機内だったため、せっかくお越し頂いた方々にお会い出来なかったのが残念です。

『Charity Box』のHPにも会場の様子が掲載され、全作品とデザイナーの紹介がアップされました。たくさんの義援金が集まったようで、その報告も近々される予定です。

Our friends Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of KleinDytham Architects are organising a huge global PechaKucha day on 16th April around the world titled "Inspire Japan".
Tomoko will be sending recorded messages from Milan about the Charity Box project she took part.
Proceeds from Inspire Japan will go directly to Architecture for Humanity (AFH).

The message from Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham below:

On the March 11, Japan suffered what has been described as a 1000 year event. The earthquake and tsunami destroyed 400km of coastline, killing over 10,000 people, leaving 400,000 people homeless, and has triggered a nuclear situation that is still unfolding.

Japan has inspired designers for many generations, it is the reason we travelled to this country 20 years ago, and have since made it our home. Japan is where the "PechaKucha 20 images x 20 seconds" show-and-tell event format was born, and it has gone on to inspire designers to get together in 400 cities around the world, to share their creativity at more than 1000 events each year.

Japan has inspired us all, now is it our turn to "Inspire Japan."

Please join us on April 16 and be a part of Global PechaKucha Day - Inspire Japan. Let's all come together and show Japan that the creative world is thinking of them, that all is not lost, and that it is possible to stand up and rebuild, even in villages and towns which have been completely destroyed. With creativity and passion, anything is possible.
