Au, Legacy
'Au garden seat for Legacy'
Legacy is one of the main exhibitions at the V&A during the London Design Festival and it is led by the team of LDF and AHEC, and made by Benchmark.
10 leaders of London's top cultural institutions met 10 designers, to create a legacy piece using American Red Oak. 10 pairs of names are announced hereand our commissioner is Kwame Kwei-Armah, the artistic director of The Young Vic. We really appreciated Kwame's inspiring brief, and heart warming encouragement during the design process!
The result is a garden seat 'Au' - named after the chemical element symbol for Gold - as the crystal structure of Gold is at the centre of this piece.

V&Aでの展示『Legacy（伝承）』は、ロンドン・デザインフェスティバルのイベントとして、AHEC (米国ハードウッド輸出協会）のレッドオークを使い、Benchmarkの制作で実現しました。
ロンドンを代表する10の文化施設の館長と10人のデザイナーが出会い、それぞれが伝承したいものをレッドオークを使ってデザインするプロジェクトで、わたしたちのクライアントは劇場Young Vicの舞台監督でライターのクワメ・クェイ-アルマー。彼の祖先がアフリカ大陸からカリブ海の諸島へ、さらにイギリスへと海を渡った歴史と、彼が孫と共有する時間 - その2つがインスピレーションです。
『Au』は元素周期表で金を表す記号ですが、日本的に「アウ」と発音し、家具の周りで起こる出会いも表現しています。中心には金の結晶構造を再現したトラスのある立方体が位置し、それが全体をつなぐ構造でもあります。
